Safeguarding

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

All the staff at North Chadderton School are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff, volunteers and members of the school community to share this commitment. We ensure that effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support children, families and staff at our school.

All concerns are passed to the members of staff who are trained as Designated Safeguarding Officers.  We aim to:

  • Provide a safe environment for children to learn.
  • Identify children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm.
  • Take appropriate action where appropriate with the aim of making sure that our students are kept safe both at school and at home.

To achieve this objective, we:

  • Aim to prevent unsuitable people from working at our school.
  • Promote safe practice and challenge any unsafe practice.
  • Identify instances where there are grounds for concern about a child’s welfare and initiate or take appropriate action to keep them safe.
  • Contribute to effective partnership working between all those involved in providing services for our children.
  • Ensure that concerns about our students are discussed with their parents/carers unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the students’ welfare.

If you have any questions about any aspects of safeguarding at North Chadderton School, please contact Mrs Adelle Greenwood, the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
