Personal Development Programme (PDP)
At the most recent inspection, Ofsted said the following of our PDP programme:
"Leaders have prioritised pupils’ and students’ character development through a well-planned personal development curriculum. For example, pupils and students learn about respect, consent and healthy relationships in an age-appropriate way. Students in the sixth form value the opportunity to explore democracy through working with the local youth parliament."
Topics covered in the curriculum include, Relationships Education, Careers, Healthy Living, Financial Planning, Politics and Citizenship.
As highlighted by the PSHE Association, learning about these topics is important for students to ensure:
- We help our pupils foster lifelong aspirations, goals and values.
- Give a chance to give every child and young person an equal opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive now and in the future.
- Help students to deal with critical issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional wellbeing and change.
- Give them a solid foundation for whatever challenging opportunities lie ahead, so they can face a world full of uncertainty with hope.
- Prepare for all the opportunities, challenges, life decisions and responsibilities they'll face.
- Equip students to develop better health and wellbeing can achieve better academically, and enjoy greater success.
