GEOGRAPHY CURRICULUM INTENT
The Geography curriculum at North Chadderton aims to provide all students with the knowledge and skills to become global citizens and environmentally conscious. We will guide students to develop their critical thinking so that they can make positive and justified decisions about our world.
WHY GEOGRAPHY?

Will your career involve working with people, wildlife, business, or trade?

Will your future involve travelling to different places around the world?

Will your life be more impacted by resources that are running out, by climate change, or by natural hazards?

Do you want to understand the world better so that you can make an impact?

Geography is a multi-disciplinary subject which focuses on how humans and the natural world interact. It is often called the fourth science as it blends analytical skills to investigate data and fieldwork alongside discussion of the lives of people, the economies they work with, and their relationship with the environment around them. We learn a huge range of ideas including processes and models, disasters and statistics, history and future business, and wildlife and technology.

Your Geography GCSE splits these areas and skills into human geography, physical geography, and issue evaluation, where we go on fieldtrips to gather our own data and experiences as well as interpret and evaluate secondary data and information. The complex nature of Geography makes it sought after by colleges, universities, and employers as it trains students to look at the recent past, the ever-changing present, and the uncertain future in order to present and justify their views using knowledge, understanding, and evaluation.

If you want to understand how you can become a global citizen, how you can deliver your ideas persuasively, and how you can step in to the future equipped with an understanding of how it is changing for all people and in all places, then the Geography GCSE is for you!
