GRAPHIC COMMUNIUCATION CURRICULUM INTENT |
The Art Curriculum at North Chadderton aims to provide students with a broad, ambitious and knowledge rich curriculum that develops understanding and critical appreciation of artistic techniques and styles, independence in working with a range of traditional and modern creative processes from research, through planning to completion of artefacts and reflection. We aim for students to realise their intentions and develop transferable skills for the world of work. |
WHY ART & DESIGN PRACTICE? |
Choose Graphic Communication if you are creative and would enjoy working practically with a range of digital media to design and create exciting graphic products. Select this course if you would enjoy exploring graphics used in the world around us whilst learning about how designers think and work. You will have the opportunity to learn to think and work independently, working towards a GCSE over two years.
This course is very different to most GCSEs as it is 60% coursework, and the 40% examination is also coursework based. You will be given all the help, materials and support you need.
You need to enjoy art to take this subject. Good drawing and creative thinking skills are helpful, but definitely not essential as they can be taught. All you need is a willingness to learn and a desire to succeed.
After completing GCSE Graphic Communication, you could choose to go on to an A Level or BTEC course, which would then lead to an Art Foundation course and a range of creative art and design degree courses. Many of our students have gone on to work in creative and enterprising areas of art and design, such as architecture, graphic design, fashion design, 3D Design, theatre design, costume design, product design, interior design/decoration, jewellery design, illustration, photography (animal and journalism), film and television. |
