MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM INTENT |
The mathematics curriculum at North Chadderton aims to develop core skills and fluency, with problem solving in the foundation years to expose students to challenging problems, enhancing depth of knowledge; then develop these skills and apply them across many contexts. Students are encouraged to critically evaluate best approaches, consider resources available and choose and apply the mathematical structures which underpin our curriculum. Thus, enabling our students to be number confident, resilient problem solvers |
WHY MATHEMATICS? |
Although the Maths you will study at GCSE in the 21st Century may look different to the Maths a teenager would have studied in Ancient Greece, the Middle Ages or Victorian England, the reason it is still so important to study has remained the same - Maths helps people solve problems. Over the centuries the problems that people face have evolved and Maths has evolved alongside, meaning the curriculum you will study at KS4 is designed perfectly to equip you with the skills and knowledge to solve problems in the modern world. Maths teaches us to think logically, to identify and state the problem clearly, to plan how to solve the problem, and then to apply the appropriate methods to evaluate and solve the problem. All these are beneficial in just about any career you could name. |
