Reporting and assessment

As a school we value not only the academic achievement of our students but also the development of their personal character and skills. This will be reflected in the way we report to parents/carers. North Chadderton endeavours to make information regarding your child’s progress as clear as possible.  You will regularly receive reports home regarding all aspects of your child’s academic and personal development.

In years 7-9 reports will show, for each individual subject, whether or not students are meeting age related expectations. In addition, the report will also highlight any concerns in that particular subject area.  The report will reflect the extent to which each student is mastering the key concepts for that particular subject that year using the following descriptors:

Emerging: Students have been taught the concept or skill, but they are rarely able to apply their understanding.

Developing:  Students begin to apply their understanding; this is usually with the support of a teacher or adult.

Securing:  Students are consistently working at the expected level; they are able to apply their understanding confidently.

Exceeding:  Students show evidence of deep knowledge and understanding; they are able to apply key concepts, including those identified as high order, to new contexts without further explicit teaching.

Towards the end of the academic year you will receive a separate report which reflects the progress students have made in personal development.  The 5 LORIC skills (Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication) will be assessed using the same descriptors as above.

In years 10-13, reports will show for each individual subject, the latest mock examination/assessment grade, their average current attainment grade and the minimum end of KS4/5 target.

The latest mock examination/assessment grade will demonstrate performance in specific assessments; these may be cumulative assessments which cover a number of areas of the specification or they may simply focus on a particular area of the specification.  The average current attainment grade will show a student’s cumulative attainment to date; this indicates how the student is performing on average across all areas of the course.

In addition, the report will also highlight any concerns in that particular subject area.

Towards the end of the academic year you will receive a separate report which reflects the progress students have made in personal development.  The 5 LORIC skills (Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication) will be assessed using the same descriptors as students in years 7-9; Emerging, Developing, Securing, Exceeding.
