Operation Encompass

North Chadderton School places the highest priority on the safety and wellbeing of every student, with robust safeguarding procedures in place across all aspects of school life..

As such, North Chadderton, along with all Oldham schools, is proud to be a part of this initiative alongside Greater Manchester Police.

Operation Encompass is a joint safeguarding partnership initiative designed to improve information sharing between schools, the police, and the local authority. It has been developed in response to  local and national learning about the significant impact domestic abuse can have on children who witness of experience it within their homes.

The aim of Operation Encompass is to ensure that children are supported to thrive in school and reach their full potential, even in challenging circumstances. When police are called to a domestic incident within the child’s home, key information is shared confidentially with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Miss Nikola Westhead. This enables the school to monitor the child's welfare closely and to offer appropriate support to both the child and their family.

This type of initiative has been implemented successfully in many areas across the country and has proved highly effective in strengthening support for children and families.
