SOCIOLOGY CURRICULUM INTENT |
The Sociology curriculum aims to provide students with historical and contemporary knowledge about British and global societies. Principle objectives include giving students the opportunity to develop a greater understanding and awareness of social, political, legal and educational changes based on the social groups a person belongs to. Students will be encouraged to think independently and critically about the world they live in. |
WHY SOCIOLOGY? |
GCSE is Sociology is designed to foster in learners an understanding and critical awareness of the social world around them. Sociology focuses on the importance of social structure in explaining social issues and encourages students to explore and debate contemporary social issues to enable them to challenge taken‐for‐granted assumptions and to question their everyday understanding of social phenomena. It allows students to understand why issues arise in society for example why youths might join subcultures. By following this course, learners will develop their own sociological awareness through active engagement with the contemporary social world. By studying sociology, students will develop transferable skills including how to investigate facts and make deductions, develop opinions and new ideas on social issues, analyse and better understand the social world. |
