SPORTS STUDIES CURRICULUM INTENT |
To inspire students to engage in life-long participation of sports and physical activities, to develop the student's self-esteem and wellbeing whilst ensuring they understand the long-term benefits of taking part. Students are provided with a curriculum that offers the opportunity to be performers or leaders, which has been carefully crafted to develop physical skills, deepen knowledge of rules, sporting actions and safety within sports. |

Enjoy watching sport on the television? Have a keen interest in a variety of sports? Considering a career in the sports industry? Then this course is for you! By choosing the Cambridge National Sports Studies course, you will be given the opportunity to practically learn the theory behind sport.
The Cambridge Nationals in Sport Studies is a vocational qualification that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. Not only can you improve your practical performance but also have the opportunity to develop your confidence in leading others whilst broadening your understanding of the range of factors influencing the sport. A lot of the content will be new to students and therefore ask them to think in a different way than they may have before and analyse and evaluate sport in the modern world. The sports studies course will allow students to undertake different roles within sport that they may have not encountered before, such as a coach or official The knowledge, understanding and skills learned in studying the OCR Cambridge National in Sport Studies will aid progression to further study and, in due course, prepare learners to enter the workplace. Cambridge Nationals are vocationally related qualifications, where learners develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context.
The qualifications are popular and effective because they enable learners to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace. These skills include: team working, working from a prescribed brief, working to deadlines, presenting information effectively, accurately completing administrative tasks and processes.
These skills will help you progress onto further study in the Exercise, Physical Activity, Sport and Health sector. This may be Level 3 vocational qualifications, such as the Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity, AS or A-Levels, such as Physical Education, Sport or Media or an apprenticeship in Community activator coach, Leisure team members, Personal trainer or Outdoor activity instructor.
