Year 11

Welcome from the Head of Year

Year 11 (ID 1287)

I am very much looking forward to taking over managing this fantastic year group as they move through their most important and challenging year of their education. I will endeavour to make their final year of secondary school as settled, productive and enjoyable as possible. This year group have made fantastic contributions to our school culture and community in so many ways over the last for years, and I am looking forward to what this year will bring.

Myself and the Assistant Head of Year Mr Ali have plenty of experience working with Key Stage 4 and many of the challenges that come with it. I know by working together with parents we will help your child achieve the very best this year and beyond. I would like to highlight some very important areas that we will be focussing on with your child in school to help make their GCSE year as successful as can be.

Attendance – attendance is the biggest single factor contributing towards poor academic performance. Those with lower attendance quite simply to not achieve as well as those with higher attendance, and are far less likely to achieve their potential. Holidays should not be booked in term time in Year 11 as this could significantly disrupt academic progress.

Punctuality – both to school and lessons is vital. Not only does being late to lessons miss vital learning time and increase disruption for others, but poor punctuality is not tolerated in further education or the world of work. It is important we instill good habits together at this stage.

Revision – this is absolutely crucial in Year 11, and the earlier your child starts the better prepared they will be for their examinations. We will be focussing on strategies in school, and would strongly encourage parents to be engaging in revision at home. Some easy wins include creating a timetable with your child, providing quiet spaces and revision materials such as flash cards.

If you have any concerns around your child's wellbeing or academics, please do not hesitate to contact your child's form tutor in the first instance. They are a team well experienced with working with Year 11’s, who will be able to support or direct your query to the most appropriate person. Thank you for all of your ongoing support and I look forward to working with you all.
